Three people, including a police officer, were killed in a tragic road accident in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, during the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to police reports, the accident involved a speeding Isuzu D-Max double cabin vehicle carrying senior DCI officer Edwin Mungai Kamau, who serves as Director of Training at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.

What Happened at the Scene?
The crash occurred at the Chuma area, where officers from Kinangop Police Station and traffic personnel had responded to an earlier accident involving two motorcycles.
While rescue efforts were ongoing in heavy fog, the high-speed Isuzu—driven by Kevin Wakivi—rammed into a stationary police vehicle and a lorry already at the scene. It hit officers and members of the public assisting with the recovery.
Casualties and Injuries
The deceased were identified as:
- Constable Gilbert Makori
- Driver to AIG Kamau (name withheld)
- One civilian (yet to be identified)
DCI officer Edwin Kamau sustained a fractured left leg, while four other police officers and eight civilians were critically injured. All victims were rushed to Engineer Sub-County Hospital.
Separate Tragedy in Yatta, Machakos
In another fatal crash, a prison warden and a probation officer attached to Kithimani Law Courts were killed in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a private vehicle in Yatta, Machakos County.
A lorry reportedly rear-ended a motorcycle, instantly killing the rider and his pillion passenger—Prison Warden Peter Ngui Mbalu. A second warden survived with injuries and was rushed to hospital.
