Victim Succumbs to Injuries
The young girl, identified as Amanda Mutheu, sadly passed away while receiving emergency treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital (KUTRRH). Her death has sparked widespread outrage and sorrow in the community.
Incident Reported by Apartment Management
According to a statement issued on Thursday, June 12, by the management of Jacaranda Gardens, the incident took place in apartment C4-205 where the family resided. The suspect, Amanda’s uncle, is said to have been heavily intoxicated at the time.
“The uncle, while under the influence of alcohol, created a scene in the apartment where only Amanda, the house girl, and the suspect were present,” the official statement noted.
How the Tragedy Unfolded
The situation escalated when the intoxicated uncle reportedly overpowered the house girl, grabbing Amanda from her arms despite her attempts to resist. Alarmed, the house girl ran out of the apartment, screaming for help.
“In a tragic turn of events, the uncle threw baby Amanda from the balcony before help could arrive,” the management said in a statement that has since been widely shared on social media.
Community Response and Police Intervention
Neighbours and Jacaranda Gardens’ security team, alerted by the screams, rushed to the scene. They subdued the suspect, preventing him from fleeing before alerting the Kiamumbi police.
The critically injured Amanda was rushed to KUTRRH, but doctors were unable to save her. Meanwhile, the suspect—who had been subjected to mob justice—was also taken to the hospital for treatment under police watch.
Investigations Underway
Authorities confirmed that the matter is now under the investigation of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The house girl has since provided a statement, and the Kahawa West Police Station has taken over the case.
“Following documentation at KUTRRH, Kahawa West officers contacted the DCI who have officially taken charge of the investigation,” added the management in their statement.
This heartbreaking case has once again raised concerns about domestic violence, child safety, and the growing number of mental health and substance abuse issues in Kenyan households.
