Police recovered several high-end Hisense TVs and sound systems after arresting two suspects linked to the Ksh17.6 million heist.

The robbery occurred at Atlantic Business Park, targeting two storage units owned by Aetlantiq Group Limited. The suspects are believed to have gained access by cutting through the roof, bypassing alarms and security measures.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), employees returning from the Easter break were shocked to discover that Godown No. 16 and No. 17 had been raided and a massive inventory of electronics stolen.

Crude Entry and Suspicious Silence

Initial investigations revealed that the perpetrators used crude weapons and strategically cut through iron sheet roofing to access sensitive areas such as the accounts office and storerooms.

Among the stolen items were 363 units of 43-inch Hisense TVs, 20 smaller HB TVs, 11 HS 218 soundbars, HP laptops, desktop computers, mobile phones, school bags, and even CCTV servers. Notably, the security team on duty failed to respond to triggered alarms and has since gone into hiding, raising concerns of an inside job.

Hotel Raid Leads to Arrests

DCI sleuths, acting on forensic intelligence, tracked two prime suspects — James Macharia Mwangi and Keriko Wanjama — to Scorpion Den Hotel in Ruai. The duo was apprehended and a cache of stolen electronics recovered.

Recovered items included:

  • 269 units of Hisense 43-inch TVs
  • 65 units of Hisense 55-inch A6 models
  • 8 units of Hisense 58-inch TVs
  • 2 units of Hisense 65-inch Q6 models
  • 7 units of Hisense 32-inch A4 models
  • Various sound systems including Aiwa SB 8320 and 2031 speakers, and 11 HS 218 soundbars

A white Mitsubishi FH truck (registration number KAV 565Q), used to ferry the stolen goods, was also impounded.

Ongoing Investigations and Manhunt

The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. A manhunt is underway for the missing security guards and other potential accomplices involved in the highly coordinated theft.

The DCI urged the public to report any suspicious activity and promised to pursue all leads until all perpetrators are brought to justice.
