William Saliba’s positive message on social media received plenty of reactions after Arsenal’s latest victory.
Arsenal took a huge step towards the Champions League semi-finals with a commanding 3-0 win over reigning champions Real Madrid at the Emirates.
With Gabriel Magalhaes ruled out for the remainder of the season, Saliba partnered Jakub Kiwior in central defence.
But the pair rose to the challenge and stood firm against one of Europe’s most dangerous front threes in Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo.
Declan Rice scored two stunning free-kicks, while Mikel Merino added a third to cap off a historic result in front of a roaring home crowd.
Following the final whistle, Saliba shared a message with fans online, reflecting the pride and belief within the squad after a performance that will live long in the memory.
William Saliba proves why Real Madrid want him with standout Champions League display
The Frenchman posted multiple photos from the night alongside the caption: “Special performance. Special atmosphere. Next week we go again.”
His message drew plenty of attention from both teammates and rival players, with Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Bukayo Saka all showing support by liking the post.
Saliba was outstanding throughout the 90 minutes, registering four clearances and dictating Arsenal’s build-up play with a remarkable 98% pass accuracy. His performance was another reminder of why he’s regarded as one of the top young defenders in Europe.
Real Madrid scouts have been tracking Saliba throughout the season, and this display will have done little to cool their interest.
However, former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal have no intention of entertaining any approach for Saliba from Madrid.
With Saliba set to enter the final two years of his deal this summer, Arsenal’s hierarchy may need to accelerate contract talks to ward off any potential suitors.
