Police IG Responds to Samidoh Transfer Rumors

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has addressed swirling reports about the alleged transfer of Mugithi musician and police officer Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh. The reports claim that Samidoh has been transferred to Baringo from Gilgil in what is believed to be a disciplinary move.

During a media briefing on Wednesday, May 28, IG Kanja responded cautiously when asked to confirm the musician’s redeployment. Although he did not confirm the transfer, he stated that all police officers are subject to routine movements and decisions guided by internal procedures.

“Police Officers Are Governed by Regulations,” Says Kanja

When pressed by journalists, Kanja explained, “Police officers are civil servants and subject to transfers. If the officer you mentioned is one of us, then he too is governed by the same rules. Therefore, he may have been redeployed to the area you’re referring to.”

While Kanja stopped short of confirming the transfer, he notably did not deny the reports, leaving room for speculation.

Why Was Samidoh Allegedly Transferred?

The rumors stem from Samidoh’s recent concerts, where crowds were heard chanting “Wantam”—a slogan widely used by opposition supporters as part of their campaign against President William Ruto’s reelection.

Some observers have interpreted the chanting as a political gesture, possibly embarrassing for the administration. It is alleged that the police force took action to avoid being associated with political activism.

Samidoh Yet to Comment on the Allegations

As of now, Samidoh has not issued any public statement regarding the alleged transfer. The singer, known for balancing his musical career and police duties, has previously said he separates entertainment from professional responsibilities.

Whether or not disciplinary measures are being taken, the matter has sparked debate online, with many Kenyans questioning whether the move is justified or politically motivated.

What’s Next for Samidoh?

While the National Police Service has not released an official statement on the matter, all eyes are on both the government and Samidoh himself to clarify the situation.

Meanwhile, the singer continues to enjoy popularity in the Mugithi music scene and commands a significant fan base across Kenya and beyond.
