West Ham have had a season to forget in the Premier League despite swapping Julen Lopetegui for Graham Potter earlier this year.
The Irons sit 16th in the top flight with seven games left to run this term and will be looking ahead to the summer transfer window.
Potter’s side will travel to the United States as part of their preparations for the 2025-26 campaign and face Bournemouth, Everton and Man United in Atlanta, Chicago and New Jersey.
According to Inside World Football (8 April), West Ham are planning a fan engagement strategy for their trip to Atlanta this summer as they bid to reinforce their supporter base in the region.
The Irons held an event in the city last weekend with club ambassador Carlton Cole making the trip to the US.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has insisted the London club are “bang on target” with their plans to engage their international fans.
International fans are ‘biggest opportunity’ for Premier League clubs, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted monetising international fans is the “biggest opportunity” for Premier League clubs looking to grow revenue.
West Ham announced a pre-tax profit of £57.2million for the 2023-24 campaign earlier this year – but that figure includes the club-record sale of Declan Rice.
Opponent | Date | Venue |
Man United | 26 July | MetLife Stadium, New Jersey |
Everton | 30 July | Soldier Field, Illinois |
Bournemouth | 3 August | Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia |
Wyness insisted the exploration in the United States is a “positive move” but is ultimately just “scratching the surface” of what is possible.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “This is something I’ve mentioned in the last few weeks.
“It’s the biggest opportunity for Premier League clubs – they’ve got to monetise their international fan base.
“West Ham are bang on target here. They’re trying to be more active in finding out who their US fans are.
“They’re trying to connect – get the emails, the phone numbers and communicate properly.
“They’ve got to create special initiatives and make them feel part of the West Ham family.
“There are ways to reach out to these fans, and they will come from across America to watch these games.
“In the US, there will be die-hard West Ham fans who come to the games. But there will be others who watch at home, and it’s the different tiers of supporters who West Ham have got to understand.
“It’s a positive move from West Ham but it’s just scratching the surface in terms of how all Premier League clubs have got to approach this.”
West Ham could let ten stars leave this summer
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (6 April) that West Ham are planning a squad overhaul in the summer with ten senior stars potentially leaving the club.
Among those earmarked for potential sales are Guido Rodriguez, Niclas Fullkrug, Emerson Palmieri, Maxwel Cornet and Michail Antonio, who are all seen as surplus to requirements.
Danny Ings, Vladimir Coufal, Aaron Cresswell and Lukasz Fabianski are likely to depart upon the expiry of their contracts, while Carlos Soler will return to PSG.
