How Police Traced the Suspect
Detectives managed to recover a getaway car reportedly used by the suspect and his accomplices to flee the scene after gunning down the MP. The vehicle was identified through security footage captured on several roads: Parliament Building, City Hall Way, Wabera Street, Kenyatta Avenue, Jakaya Kikwete Road, Argwings Kodhek Road, and Valley Road—routes that the MP had used just before his murder.
According to the DCI, the arrested suspect was traced along these same routes, placing him at the scene of the crime and reinforcing his connection to the murder.
The Fatal Shooting of MP Charles Were
MP Charles Were was shot and killed on Wednesday, April 30, near the City Mortuary roundabout on Ngong Road while seated in his Toyota Crown. He was shot four times and later pronounced dead at Nairobi Hospital.

Security footage shows that Were left Parliament at around 7 p.m. and made a stop at Wabera Street where his bodyguard deposited Ksh20,000 into the MP’s phone. Surveillance captured a hooded man loitering nearby, seemingly monitoring the vehicle.
Moments later, the MP’s car changed routes to avoid traffic and was eventually caught in a snarl-up on Valley Road. The suspect, now trailing on a sports bike, caught up with them, disembarked, and fired four shots at close range before fleeing.
