316 Nursing Interns Finally Get Offer Letters After Initial Omission
Health CS Adan Duale presents offer letters to nursing interns at Afya House, Nairobi – July 2025.
Interns Previously Left Out
Health Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale has officially issued internship offer letters to 316 nursing graduates who were mistakenly excluded from the original internship allocation by the Ministry of Health.
Speaking during the event at Afya House in Nairobi, CS Duale clarified that the affected interns had met all qualifications but were erroneously omitted from the initial cohort of 6,484 medical interns announced on June 30, 2025.
Complaints Spark Investigation
“Following the posting of the 6,484 interns, we received multiple complaints regarding irregularities involving 2,098 BSc Nursing candidates,” Duale revealed. “This triggered an urgent investigation into discrepancies found in the posting list.”
Based on the findings, the Ministry resolved to immediately correct the mistake by adding the 316 qualified nursing graduates to the program.
Drastic Actions Taken
As part of corrective measures, the CS announced the suspension of Dr. Lister Onsongo, CEO of the Nursing Council of Kenya, to allow for further investigations into the irregular posting process.
Additionally, internship offers were revoked for 42 individuals who were mistakenly placed despite not having completed their studies.
Ministry Calls for Integrity
“We recognize the distress caused to candidates whose offers have been withdrawn,” said Duale. “However, the Ministry must uphold the integrity of the internship process. Only those who have met the full academic and licensure requirements will be accepted.”
He added that a centralized digital internship system is being developed to enhance transparency and accountability in future postings.
Interns Urged to Serve With Integrity
CS Duale urged the newly posted interns to approach their roles with humility, professionalism, and commitment to patient-centered care. “You are the future of our health system, and we count on you to serve with dedication,” he stated.
