Chebet Eyes Another Historic Double

After her sensational performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she claimed gold in both 5,000m and 10,000m, Chebet is determined to repeat the feat at the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo this September.

Speaking after finishing third in the Kenyan trials at Ulinzi Complex, Nairobi, Chebet expressed confidence in her form and her teammates’ strength.

Team Kenya’s Strength Boosts Confidence

“Running alongside Janet Chepng’etich and Agnes Jebet was amazing. We were testing our synergy and focus as a team. Kenyans should expect medals—we’re going as ambassadors,” Chebet said.

The 25-year-old already secured the qualifying time for the 10,000m but opted to race at the trials to fine-tune her preparations alongside her compatriots.

Lessons From Paris To Tokyo

Looking ahead, Chebet plans to leverage her experience in Paris where she mastered the tactical balance of doubling in two grueling long-distance events.

“I know what it takes now. My training is tailored for endurance and recovery. Tokyo will not be easy, but I trust in the work we’ve put in as a team,” she added.

Chebet’s success would mirror her mentor Faith Kipyegon’s dominance in middle-distance races, reinforcing Kenya’s legacy in women’s athletics.
