Markets With Boardrooms? DP Kindiki Reveals Unusual Upgrade Plan
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that all markets across the country will soon be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
Speaking on Tuesday, May 13, Kindiki said the facilities will include cold storage units, internet-connected computer labs and social halls for traders.
“All markets will have cold storage facilities where supplies can be stored, making them fresh until the whole stock is cleared out,” the deputy president stated.
He added that each market will feature social halls and boardrooms to facilitate meetings and training sessions for traders. Computer labs with internet access will also be installed to enhance digital literacy.
Government’s Broader Development Agenda
President William Ruto had previously launched the construction of the Luanda Modern Market in Vihiga County on January 23, 2025, as part of a wider initiative to construct over 400 modern markets across Kenya.
“We are constructing over 400 modern markets across the country to strengthen the agricultural sector and drive economic growth in rural and urban areas,” Ruto said.
The Luanda market will accommodate more than 2,000 traders and feature cold rooms, ICT hubs, ablution blocks, food courts, and areas dedicated for mothers.
