The National Police Service has confirmed the resignation of popular Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki, alias Samidoh, ending his 12-year stint as a police constable.

Resignation Accepted by Police Boss

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja formally accepted Samidoh’s resignation, which took effect on July 20, 2025. The decision allows the musician to fully concentrate on his flourishing music career.

In his letter to the service, Samidoh cited personal reasons and his desire to focus exclusively on music after years of juggling both duties.

Previous Run-Ins with NPS

The resignation follows months of tension between the singer and the police service. Earlier this year, the NPS declared him a deserter after he failed to return from official leave. A police signal noted that his whereabouts were unknown, and his salary was halted.

However, documents later showed that Samidoh had been cleared by the Inspector General’s office to travel to the United States on a private visit. In July, the High Court granted him a KSh200,000 anticipatory bail, shielding him from arrest and ordering him to deposit his passport in court.

Music Career and Controversy

Samidoh’s troubles reportedly began after a viral video of one of his performances, where revellers chanted “wantam,” a slogan used by opposition leaders against President William Ruto’s re-election. Following the incident, he was transferred to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil, Nakuru County.

Despite the controversies, Samidoh remains one of Kenya’s most popular Mugithi musicians, known for blending traditional Kikuyu sound with contemporary styles.

What Lies Ahead

With his resignation now official, Samidoh is expected to increase his presence in Kenya’s entertainment scene and on international stages. His departure from the police service closes a chapter that spanned more than a decade of public service and sets the stage for a full-time music career.
