Police Officer Killed by Colleague at Fertiliser Depot in Vihiga

Police in Vihiga County have launched investigations after an officer was allegedly shot dead by his colleague while on duty at a government fertiliser depot in Esirabe, Luanda.

Suspect on the Run

According to Luanda Sub-County Police Commander Richard Siele, the suspect fled the scene after the incident, prompting a manhunt by security agencies. The slain officer, identified as Nicholas Samoei, died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Witness Accounts and Early Findings

Residents reported hearing several gunshots late at night. “Wananchi walituambia kwamba mwendo wa saa mbili, saa tatu usiku, hawajui nini ilikuwa imetokea wapi. Mwendo wa saa kumi leo usiku walisikia milio tofauti tofauti ya risasi,” Commander Siele told the press, noting that the officer’s body was found with a head injury.

Investigators recovered both officers’ firearms at the scene. Preliminary reports suggest that the shooting was not self-inflicted but carried out by a fellow officer.

Public Shock and Concern

Local residents expressed shock over the killing. “Tuko na huzuni kwa kitendo ambacho kimetokea mahali hapa, kwa sababu tunajua askari ni walinzi wetu. Haijakuwa jambo la busara askari kuua mwenzake,” said Thomas Okwako, a resident. He urged authorities to address such cases urgently.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and updates will be shared once the suspect is apprehended. Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that may assist in tracking down the officer on the run.
