President William Ruto is set to travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake, according to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.

Kenya’s Commitment to Global Food Security

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 27, Hussein Mohamed noted that Ruto will deliver Kenya’s national address at the summit, reaffirming the country’s dedication to overhauling food systems and advancing climate-resilient agricultural practices.

“At the summit, the President will deliver Kenya’s national statement, reaffirming the country’s commitment to transforming food systems to support sustainable development and enhance climate resilience,” Mohamed stated.

High-Level Engagements and Bilateral Talks

Beyond the summit, President Ruto is expected to engage in a series of high-level discussions with international leaders and private sector stakeholders. These talks aim to strengthen Kenya’s global influence in food security, infrastructure, trade, and climate diplomacy.

Among those scheduled for bilateral meetings with the President are:

  • Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of Ethiopia
  • Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy
  • Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission

Strategic Objectives

According to the statement, President Ruto’s diplomatic mission in Ethiopia will focus on:

  • Boosting bilateral and regional ties
  • Enhancing Kenya’s participation in global climate action
  • Fostering private sector collaboration

This marks another major international outing by the Kenyan Head of State as he positions the country as a key voice in global policy forums on sustainability and development.
