CS Murkomen Urges Suspects in Fr. Allois Bett’s Murder to Surrender

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on all suspects linked to the murder of Catholic priest Fr. Allois Bett to turn themselves in as police ramp up efforts to apprehend those still at large.

Police Close in on Murder Suspects

Speaking on Friday, July 25, Murkomen stated that security officers are actively pursuing the remaining suspects believed to be hiding after the shocking killing of Fr. Bett. The priest’s brutal murder has sparked nationwide outrage and intensified calls for justice.

“Security officers are on the trail of those who continue to hide. We know where they are, and sooner rather than later, they will be found and brought to justice,” Murkomen said during a public address.

Olive Branch Extended to Suspects

The CS urged the suspects to surrender peacefully at the nearest police station to avoid potentially deadly confrontations with law enforcement officers.

“I’m extending an olive branch to those being pursued—go to the nearest police station and surrender. This is the safest way to be processed through the justice system,” Murkomen added. “Confronting police officers may lead to unnecessary loss of life.”

Appeal to Armed Youth

Beyond the murder case, Murkomen addressed a broader security concern, urging young people in possession of firearms—regardless of whether they were involved in recent violence—to surrender their weapons voluntarily.

He promised that those who comply could benefit from government programs, including vocational training and job placements through the Affordable Housing Program.

“If you have a gun, hand it over to the police. We’re willing to support your rehabilitation. I’m ready to work with government agencies to enroll you in technical colleges and involve you in the housing program,” he said.

Justice for Fr. Bett

Fr. Allois Bett’s death has left a deep void in the Catholic community and among Kenyans at large. The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring those responsible face the full force of the law.

Investigations remain ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence and pursuing leads linked to the horrific incident.

Murkomen’s firm yet compassionate message signals the state’s dual approach: justice for victims and rehabilitation for at-risk youth, in a bid to curb rising insecurity in parts of the country.
