Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has reassured Kenyans that he will not betray their trust as he prepares for a major political announcement regarding ODM’s potential alliance with President William Ruto’s UDA party.
Raila’s Commitment to the People
Speaking ahead of the much-anticipated ODM at 20 Convention in Busia County, Raila emphasized that any decision he makes will be in the best interest of Kenyans.
“We are not going to betray our people in whatever we do. What we are going to do will be in the interest of our people of Kenya,” Raila stated.
He further revealed that he has held extensive consultations with his supporters, who have given him full discretion to decide on the party’s next political move.
“I have listened very carefully to the views expressed, and I can say they have given me a carte blanche, a blank cheque, and they said they will support whatever we do,” he added.
Crossroads After AUC Bid Loss
Since his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, Raila has been at a political crossroads, with both the opposition and the government seeking his allegiance.
Meanwhile, preparations for the ODM at 20 celebration at Bukiri Primary School in Funyula are nearing completion. Reports indicate that the ODM Central Management Committee has resolved to reinstate Raila as party leader, a position temporarily held by Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o during Raila’s AUC campaign.
What’s Next for Raila and ODM?
As Raila prepares to make his political declaration, Kenyans eagerly await his next move whether he will formalize a political partnership with Ruto or reinforce ODM’s independence. His decision could reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
