Thousands of Uncollected Logbooks: NTSA Sends Urgent Appeal to Kenyans
Kenya News – The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued an urgent appeal to motor vehicle owners across the country, urging them to collect thousands of unclaimed logbooks lying idle at its regional offices.
Uncollected Logbooks Piling Up
In a public notice issued on Friday, August 1, the NTSA revealed that a large number of printed logbooks remain uncollected, despite being ready for release. The authority emphasized that the documents are awaiting pickup at the respective NTSA centres chosen by applicants during the processing stage.
“Thousands of logbooks remain uncollected across NTSA offices,” the notice stated, calling upon vehicle owners to make their way to designated centres with their identification card and previous logbook to collect the documents.
The logbook collection process is free of charge.

Fresh Crackdown on Non-Compliant Motorists
The appeal comes just a day after NTSA rolled out a new wave of enforcement measures to improve road safety across the country. On Thursday, July 31, the authority published a fresh set of regulations targeting both private and public service vehicles (PSVs).
The new directives include:
- Ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy and insured
- Mandatory inspection certificates for PSVs and commercial vehicles
- PSV drivers to carry valid Road Service Licenses (RSLs) and PSV badges
- Wearing official uniforms in line with the Public Service Vehicle Regulations, 2024
- Functional speed governors that transmit data to NTSA’s centralized system
- Strict observance of lane discipline and posted speed limits
- No overloading or driving without a valid driving license
Passengers Also Reminded of Their Role
NTSA further reminded commuters to wear seatbelts at all times — regardless of trip length — and stay alert during journeys to enhance road safety. The agency noted that driving under the influence remains a major cause of fatalities on Kenyan roads and must be eliminated through both enforcement and public awareness.
Motorists and passengers alike are encouraged to adhere to the new directives to help curb the rising number of road accidents in the country.
