5 People Reportedly Killed in Deadly Confrontation With Police in Narok

 

At least five individuals were tragically killed on Monday, April 28, in Angata Barrikoi, Narok County, following violent clashes with police over a land dispute. The deadly confrontation unfolded when local residents staged protests against government officials who had arrived to demarcate the contested land.

The situation escalated as tensions mounted between the residents and security forces, leading to road blockages and a standoff. Police responded with force, which tragically resulted in fatalities. In distressing footage shared by Nairobileo.co.ke, gunshots can be heard as locals, including women and children, screamed in fear during the chaos.

Deputy Governor of Narok, Tomalinye Koech, confirmed the incident, although he withheld further details about the ongoing investigation. He expressed his sorrow and pledged to intervene on behalf of the affected community, emphasizing that the disputed land is linked to a powerful local politician.

“I am deeply saddened by the reported news of the killings in Angata Barrikoi. My heartfelt condolences to all affected. I want to assure you that no one can take your land from you.” – Tomalinye Koech

The Deputy Governor further assured the community of his support, stating: “As your Senator, I stand firmly with you in this difficult time. I will visit the area to gain a better understanding of the situation and offer my support. Once again, my sincere condolences.”
