The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is mourning the loss of a senior officer who collapsed and died during a routine morning exercise at the School of Military Engineering in Isiolo.
Tragic Morning at KDF Training Ground
The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 22, as the officer was participating in a regular jogging session with colleagues. According to initial reports, the senior official collapsed unexpectedly and was pronounced dead at the scene after efforts to resuscitate him failed.
“It was a normal routine exercise that turned tragic. Medical personnel responded swiftly but unfortunately, we lost him,” said a source within the military who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
Authorities Notify Family and Begin Investigations
The officer’s identity has been withheld pending official communication and notification of his family. KDF authorities have since launched an internal inquiry to establish the cause of death, although preliminary findings suggest it could be linked to a medical emergency.
The Kenya Defence Forces expressed their condolences to the bereaved family, describing the deceased as a dedicated and disciplined soldier who served the nation with honor.

This tragedy comes just days after another deadly incident where three KDF officers lost their lives in a suspected ambush in a different region, sparking concern and sympathy nationwide.
Military experts have underscored the need for regular medical check-ups for officers engaged in physically demanding duties, especially in high-stress environments.
