I Will Not Feel Bad If ODM SG Position is Given to Someone Else – Edwin Sifuna
Nairobi Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has stated that he would not be upset if the party decided to replace him as SG.
Sifuna Reflects on His ODM Leadership Journey
Speaking during an interview on , Sifuna said he is proud of his tenure as ODM Secretary General and is at peace with any future decisions about his position.
“It has been the honour of my life to be the Secretary General of ODM. There is no political platform bigger than ODM and the Secretary General of ODM. I have served for 8 years, making me the longest-serving SG,” Sifuna remarked.
“I made contributions to the party that I’m proud of. I will not feel bad if they give an opportunity to someone else,” he added.
Sifuna Dismisses Ruto’s Remarks
Sifuna also responded to President William Ruto’s threat to convene a meeting of ODM founding members to discipline him.
“Nobody should threaten me with founder member status. There is no organ of ODM called ‘founders,’ and President Ruto is not a member of the party. Only the disciplinary committee can discipline me, not William Ruto,” Sifuna asserted.
Ruto’s Warning During Funeral Speech
During the burial of Raila Odinga’s bodyguard George Oduor on , President Ruto warned Sifuna, reminding him of his alleged deep-rooted ties to ODM.
“When you speak about me, Edwin Sifuna, know that I am a founding member of ODM. If you push me too far, I will call for a meeting of the founding members, and we can discipline you,” Ruto said.
ODM’s Future Leadership Prospects
The debate around ODM’s leadership comes as the party prepares for internal elections ahead of the 2027 General Election. Sifuna’s remarks hint at a potential leadership shake-up in Kenya’s largest opposition party.
